Being a student, thoughts of carrier has always bothered me. That what sector is good, where can I earn more, what all options do I have, whether my family will support me or not and many more, and I'm sure there might be some thoughts that also bother other students. There are so much pressure and competitions nowadays. But choosing the government sector is the conclusion to every thought in mind, Indian families also happily support it.
It's not like there is less opportunity in private sectors or there is less money in it. Companies like Google, Infosys, reliance industry, etc. But there are more advantages in the government sector and the most important reason is job security. Not all private company provides this. Also in the government sector, there are many other facilities, there are many carrier opportunities.

Some of the top government jobs in India are:
1)    The Indian Administrative Services- To be an IAS officer you have to fight its entrance exams; one should always be updated in different fields like economics, history, and politics.

2)    The Indian Foreign Services- first you have to fight UPSC exams, you should be good in English and good economic, political, historical knowledge, and you will get to travel to many countries and represent India.


3)    Indian Revenue Services- In this also you have to fight UPSC exams, it offers you good salary and you get a chance to work in the income tax department.

4)    Lecturing at Government Universities- A job of a teacher is best for women as there is manageable workload, less working hours. For this, you have to complete your PhD, apply to UGC entrance test and also appear for state level eligibility tests.

5)     Bank Probationary Officer- First, you should have proficiency in different subjects like English, reasoning, computers and general knowledge. There are different types of exams you have to appear for depending on the type of job you want.

6)    State Public Service Commission- each state has its own entrance exams, not like IPS officer but a state public service commission is also powerful and can rule their home state.

7)    Defence- for entering in defence sector you have been trained and appear for NDA exams. If you want to serve your country this is the best sector for you. 
For different categories and sectors there are different requirements of qualifications, you have to study really hard and fight a different kind of exams. Every year there are many vacancies in many sectors, but sometimes in a row there are no vacancies.
